Engine and Transmission / engine bogging and miss firing at full throtle openings
« Last post by oliver54 on September 07, 2023, 12:18:30 am »
Hello my 1971 nuovo falcone runs great ,starts and runs great except if i try to give it full throttle it then bogs down and miss fires until you reduce the throttle opening , you can slowly feather the throttle until a higher speed is reached .am i correct in thinking carburetor issue .it has the standard delorto carb and is totally stock

Electrics / Re: LED Indicators

That sounds good Rob. I’ve often thought about fitting indicators, but never got around to it. I’d want something discreet, and on my bike, the obvious thing would be to fit them to the steel panniers, but I don’t want to drill them. No doubt I’ll be dead and buried before I make a decision…. ???

Electrics / LED Indicators
« Last post by Rob vW on July 27, 2023, 11:26:53 am »
Has anyone fitted indicators, let alone LED indicators?  When I originally restored my NF, I decide to fit indicators, which worked quite well.  However, after a while the fuse in the headlight started to blow (quite often).  No doubt, somewhere there is likely to be a fault causing this, quite possibly the handlebar switch, as everything else is solid.

So I took the plunge and decoded to fit LED indicators, the idea being to reduce the current load.  If you fit LED bulbs, you also need a compatible LED indicator relay.  Fitting is no problem as the LED bulbs were compatible with the original bulbs, and the relays just swap over.  If you need an indicator wiring diagram, look at Paul Goff's website http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/Wiringdiagrams.htm

However, the indicator repeater light (still a standard incandescent bulb) in the headlight would not work, and the new indicators flashed quite rapidly.  This needed sorting. Paul shows a "tweaker" on part of his website, as the new system doesn't produce enough current to light the repeater bulb.  What is needed is the "tweaker". http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/GoffyLEDIndicators.htm

The wiring diagram is a bit basic, as it doesn't show the indicator relay.  The tweaker is a section of wire with diodes to stop the current back feeding which could make the indicators flash on both sides at once.  But with patience and some extra wires and connections, it does now work very well indeed.

Engine and Transmission / Re: idea for improving oil feed to the cams
« Last post by banquo on July 11, 2023, 07:24:56 pm »
I have the secondary valve feed. It smokes after a while on idle. Apparently they all do... To minimise cam wear I don't set the idle really low. I have it set like a brit single.

This is the additional feed to the camshaft Cloggy: not to inlet valve
Incidentally, I have the inlet oil feed, and no issues with smoking, but I also have the cylinder head modification using 8mm stems and guides fitted with valve stem oil seals

I had the same problem. I changed the oil 3 times to get rid of the car oil residue, and it stopped slipping. I was lucky.

Frame, Suspension and Tinware / Re: Front brake performance

Sorry for tardy response: I rarely check on here now, as it gets so little traffic.
Yes, disc brakes have been fitted, but that means grafting on a complete front end.
I compensated for a not very good front brake for the first 18 years or so, until I could no longer put up with it jamming on.
Following advice from others, I realised it was because the cams were turning so far, the springs were unable to push them back - this despite there being a huge amount of friction material left.
I bought new shoes off eBay, fitted them, and discovered that they wouldn't fit the drum - just a fraction too large in diameter.
I took the brake plate with shoes fitted, and a thin shim between the operating cam and the heel of the shoe to simulate a slight application of the brake, along with the complete wheel to a machinist, who turned down the assembled linings to just fit the drum.
After adjustment, I now have the best brake ever, with huge fork dive and a screeching tyre.
I assume the geometry of the brake is wrong from the factory, with the shoes not forming a perfect circle from new, and it's crazy that the shoes need discarded with 5mm of material left, but the end result is as good a TLS brake as I have ever experienced.
For adjustment, my simple approach is to disconnect the connecting link (and replace those split pins with r-clips while you're at it), pull the front lever on by hand, and then adjust the length of the linkage until it just lines up with the rear lever when it too is pulled home by hand.
It works for me.

Frame, Suspension and Tinware / Front brake performance

Has anyone done a front brake conersion to disc brakes?   It would be nice to be able stop as quickly as other vehicles on the road!, or any hints for improving the standard set-up?  Thank you.

Just a quick hello from a new member in Oz . Had a Guzzi a while back (MK1 Le Mans), now gone, but I now have a hankering for something more shall we say esoteric and am looking for a Nuovo Falcone in Oz. Wish me luck .
Cheers,
Adrian
There used to be quite a few in Oz Adrian, many of which were highly tuned for performance. Good luck in your search!
