By 'too small' I mean theres a gap in every ring when installed in the bore and so I will be losing pressure ion both directions. Buying new spares can be as problematic as second hand stuff sometimes !

Ive found the problem Jake. The rings are new yes, but Ive removed the cylinder again to check them in the bore. Turns out they must have been chosen from the wrong tray (think I got them from TLM but cant be sure now) and theyre too small. Ive had a look at the SMS. MOTO site and theyve a full range so I will get them from there. Teach me to check them next time wont it !

Im getting a bit of blue oil smoke on tickover guys and that soon clears given a rev. All is in very fair order internally, with new valve guides and rings etc so its a bit of a mystery so far. I seem to remember a posting somewhere in regard to the oil level, in that (I think), the best level is attained by dipping the sump without the dipstick screwed right in. Does this ring a bell with anyone please ?

A question if I may please Jake. Any idea where I might get a blank key, suitable for the NF please. I could do with a duplicate !

Started my NF up yesterday for the first time in around 3.5 years. It fired up 'second swing' and is mechanically almost silent, the exhaust is however and despite the huge double silencer (which is just an echo chamber really), rather noisy, but it sounds terrific with a real 'boom' to it ! Very noticeable (deliberately) is that huge exposed (red) flywheel scything round, but more so because Ive painted an offwhite segment aligned to the ignition timing marks (easy to see now) and which, at a certain RPM, gives that weird illusion that the engine stops and starts to run in the other direction, great effect this ! The V7 uprated oil pump is doing a very good job, the oil light actually goes out when the kickstart is operated and before the engine starts. Big relief this and its a happy situation that the pressure relief valve will almost always be open and so to lubricate the cam properly - the desired outcome ! All thats left is to buy a suitable battery (a 12 volt 9 amp hour should suffice Im told) - other that is than the huge car type that it arrived with - just unnecessary weight) and to fit the seat and the tank. Its then MOT time and we are on the road!

I've really enjoyed this project mostly because there's nothing complicated about this bike, its good old 50s solid engineering.

Almost there now and just the wiring to complete. I got the flywheel colour from a U Tube clip of an x Serbian NF and I reckon it sort of fits, colour wise that is.

Its often crossed my mind Jake and I very often provide biscuit tins full for my mates etc and also do the same for my local bike (FBMCC) club as  xmas raffle prizes - theyre highly sought believe me ! I dont however want to make too much of a meal of it, as everything Ive had so far (and its considerable) has been free gratis and the  company I work for are very decent. Oh, I also pulled a genuine great war brodie helmet (tin hat) out of a skip, I actually raced a Polishman to it and I got there first. Its date stamped 1915 and they sell, I believe, for some £350 to £400. I wont sell it though as the Great War is a very big part of my many interests.

Got a Drummond lathe and all the tooling and I also ------------ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an incidental, I thought I would everyone 'insanely jealous' and relate that the stainless nuts, bolts and washers, of every size existing, are delivered 'as scrap' to my empire at work. I get to take home what I want here and the NF project Im presently engaged with, is largely bolted together courtesy of a very kind local shipyard. Of course to buy this sort of stuff would be A DEAR JOB, but the only manner in which I struggle with then ' is carrying them home'! So who's even more jealous ????????
