Your Nuovo Falcone / Re: Spain 2024

It's not my only long trip on the Falcone. Last year I rode down the length of France, over the Pyrenees at the Bielsa-Aragnouet pass, at 6,000ft it was a slow climb on a loaded Falcone, and back via Santander. That was with camping gear too. I wrote that trip up for Gambalunga and it was published a couple of months ago. The only thing that broke was the rubber band hold my pushbike speedo in place.
I quite enjoy doing distance on the Falcone. It is slow and definitely breathless on big hills, but 80-90kph is the speed limit on French/Spanish B-roads and is quite a nice pace to see the countryside at 250-300km per day.

Frame, Suspension and Tinware / Re: Swinging Arm issues

Hello all,
Following a long trip camping through France and Spain last year and a 1600mile trip in Spain this year, my Civile had developed swinging arm play that was simply too big to ignore.
I’ve just replaced the swinging arm bushes in phosphor-bronze (SAE660) in the way described by banquo, except that I bought a new long central tube from Stein-Dinse. Mine all came apart reasonably easily with a big steel drift and a copper hammer.
The local precision engineering firm that turned the bushes for me told me that the original bushes were a tough form of cast iron, not steel, which makes sense as cast iron does have some ‘self-lubricating’ properties. The central tube is steel.
I asked him to turn a fine spiral groove internally in the bushes and have fitted a grease nipple.
All refitted with a freshly painted swinging arm which now has a lovely action, falling smoothly under its own weight, a new pair of Hagon Classic III shocks and a new Dunlop K82. Ready to go again!

I took my Falcone to Spain this year for the Colombres Rally (https://www.motoclubindianos.com/en/home1/), which was a great week as usual. Following the rally week I rode down to Madrid for a week and then back up to Santander for the ferry home. The bike ran faultlessly for 1600 miles, used 200cc of oil and had the chain adjusted once.

Following this trip and last-year's equally long trip through France and Spain, a little play has developed in the swinging arm bushes, which will be this autumn's project to replace, perhaps following Banquo's lead and going for phosphor-bronze - but definitely with the addition of a grease nipple.

Newbies say hello / Hello all
« on: October 06, 2024, 12:20:12 pm »
Just a quick note to say hello.
I have a Civile and have used it to tour in recent years. Last year was a trip down the length of France, over the Pyrenees and back to Plymouth via Santander - an account of that trip was recently published in Gambalunga.
I’m currently in northern Spain finishing the Colombres classic rally, then riding south to Madrid before returning home. The bike is going well, other than a bit of play that’s developing in the swinging arm, and returning 70mpg.
