Newbies say hello / Re: New member Sydney Australia

.... My second bike in 1975 was a BMW R60/5 with black spring loaded buttons that depressed the floats causing the bowls to flood.  High-tech stuff huh?

Those are what used to be called "ticklers". I had one of them on my '53 Norton 500. I can't remember what I had on my R27 BMW, but it might have been similar. Too many years ago. And of course terminology also varies continent by continent!

Traveldoc, you had me going, for a moment, when you talked about the choke arrangement. For a second or so I was thinking that the NF had a true choke (butterfly) arrangement, and not the enrichener set up. I couldn't figure out how you would use the Dellorto flipup to handle a butterfly choke. Anyway, once I realized the bike has the enrichener, the same as on the big twins, I think it makes great sense to switch from the handlebar lever to the flip configuration. I hadn't thought about that solution, and it is one that I think I will undertake on my own NF, to replace the dodgy handlebar lever that is impossible to manage with one hand.
Thanks!

I've been avidly following this thread the last week or so, particularly the discussion regarding wheels. As you and I conversed on FB, Jake, I came to the same conclusion, that  reliance on a bike wheelbuilder is likely the best way to go, given my limited (zero) experience in that regard.
The discussion regarding the hassle and cost of importing parts, bits and pieces, from overseas sure rings true these days. The virus thing has held up purchases from Europe incredibly. My last order from Teo Lamers in the NL took two months, where is normally takes around a week. And the Canadian customs in aggressively chasing down revenue and taxes, whereas in the past most packages have arrived with no extra fees. I got a set of Gilardonis from Stein Dinse a month of so ago, for a cost of about 700 Cdn, and was charged another 170 by Customs. Even from the US it is slow these days to Canada; I ordered a few smal bits from MG Cycle a week and a half ago and still have not seen them.

Frame, Suspension and Tinware / Re: Rim Sizes?
« on: May 30, 2020, 08:01:50 pm »
Thanks for the replies!  I'm planning to replace the current Akront and Borrani rims and will likely stick with my current WM2/ WM3 front/rear setup in conjunction with a 3.25 width front tire and 3.5 width rear tire.  I'll probably use Takasago Excel flanged rims, which look very similar to vintage Borrani rims but are substantially stronger.

I'm resurrecting this three year old thread, but did you ever go ahead with your rim change? If so, do you have details on replacement rim type and model, and spoke description? The wheels on my NF are abysmally rusty and I want to swap them out for something else. Not really sure where to start.
