Hey Oliver , i had a similar issue with mine years ago , starting and running fine  but would have to back off the throttle and feather it as you say to gain a bit more speed ,but once i had come to terms with the relatively slow  top speed  i found  i was quite happy plodding along and just enjoy the views!  It got worse on a longer ride  once ,and it seemed to be running a bit smokey , it was  just a matter of stopping and readjusting the  idle  screw on the carb .I think the machine vibrates that much it was  winding that adjustment  screw out  just a tiny amount as i travelled along . It certainly improved  by winding it back to run a little leaner ... all the best  with yours  and  safe travels . Ric

Had a similar issue with mine  when i first got it  years ago , it was the choke  cable seating at the carb , the cable wasnt returning the plunger fully , i replaced the cable and adjusted it , no problem since

Hi John

Ive also got a  70 NF from the yugo army . It was imported to uk  with tonnes of other military surplus in 2008 , Ive since moved back to NZ and its still a sweet runner..no major  work required thus far .  fork seals and control cables needed replacement  but not hard to track down  those sorts of things . Panniers ,leg sheilds , screens are much harder to find .this forum  has helped me alot  and as jake says, the paul  friday  resources  are the place to start . Sure theres not heaps of traffic here but there are lots of guys  way  more clever than i am with engineering  that can  help  get the bike sorted. Im interested that a load of bikes  ended up in Aussie , i had not heard of that  story , do you know any details ?  Ive heard theres another bike in Auckland , a mate even claims to have seen and heard it ! but    most people i  speak too at rallies  have never seen one  so it does get a fair bit of attention .
cheers

Virtual Rally / Classic bike Guide
« on: October 20, 2017, 08:16:35 am »
Hi All

On my way to HK this week for work i happened by the newsagents for a scan of the bike mags and was delighted to find  the August Classic bike guide  with a  riding life feature on the mighty NF !   it only took a second to  recognise the  machine in question was Jake's Militare  complete  with cable tray  gear rack . Great  article  with  links to the  forum . Cult classic  indeed !

Hi

I  managed to find  this guy a couple of years ago who had an NF in parts and he  sold me a pair of  side covers , I am pretty sure he also has a Fuel tank  but  i suspect  the  postage  might be expensive to the USA ..... might be worth  dropping him an email

Tyres oil and consumables / Brake pad specs
« on: November 14, 2015, 09:38:46 am »
Hi
Does anyone know the official size / thickness of  new brake pads to use as a comparison to the used ones on my bike ? The riders manual says  replace pads once you have run out of thread on the adjustment wheel  but i am after  the actual pad thickness to show they are within normal range . I just don't know what  is the actual range  they should be in ?  They do  work fine  and pull the  beast up  relatively  well , its never really going that  fast anyway !
any  ideas

Electrics / Re: Re lights not working
« on: November 14, 2015, 09:10:22 am »
Hi Mike
I had similar problems  with mine when i first got it , the headlight fuse had been replaced with a  piece of wire , i replaced it with a proper fuse  and it lasted one ride  before it blew, this happened a few times and i started to understand that my  bike has an issue  with the connections  or something  in the terminal block.  I bypassed the  fuse holder and eventually realised the problem was between the fuse  holder and the block  ,  between the front and back of the bakelite  panel.. so hard to find and fix , i have bypassed that  connection , its not as neat as the original  but its still working fine now .
cheers

I like the black shirt , whatever colour border  is decided  i would like  1 x M  thanks  ,  and Banquo  i don't think mighty man looks girly generally, i just meant his tight  jeans  look like a girl  because  he has  no  bollocks  in them , he  looks anatomically  correct  everywhere else !

Electrics / Re: Wrong plug
« on: February 03, 2015, 02:37:27 am »
Hi  i replaced  the plug  when i first  got the bike  in 2012  with  BP6ES  from NGK  and have had no problems until recently   about 2000 kilometers  later.  Was having problems  starting   , checking  the plug  showed  it pretty  sooty  and wet  so i thought i  had a  carb  over choking issue  , something i had dealt with before  by  replaced the   choke cable  but  i replaced the  plug  again  and  it  starts  first  time .  A mate  suggested that  just might be the life span  of  the plug  ... hard to say   but i now have another  spare  in the  side box  at all time .
cheer
