New Member with recently purchased 1970 Nuovo Falcone

Hi all.

I recently purchased a 1970 Nuovo Falcone (military).  The previous owner threw a rod in the mid 80's, partially fitted a replacement engine, but never got the bike entirely back together.  So it has been sitting for about 30 years.  It's definitely a project, but the price reflected that, and it was located less than 2 miles from my house.

The bike appears to be complete, including the shields that attach to the front crash bars and the original airbox.  Most of the original engine was also included, which should provide some useful spare parts.

It has a light brown paint scheme with red pin stripes.  The rear rim is a Borrani and the front rim is an Akront, both of which seem out of place on a military bike.  The bike also has rear crash bars / passenger pegs, which I haven't seen before on a Nuovo Falcone, although my '70 Ambassador came with a similar setup.

The fuel tank has a large rust hole on one side near the top, which is really unfortunate as otherwise the tank is in really nice condition.  I'll have to figure out whether it's cheaper to buy a replacement tank or have this one repaired.

Not many Nuovo Falcones made it to the U.S., but I'm lucky to know a local gal who has one - - - and she's a crack motorbike mechanic.  I'm sure I will be seeking the wisdom of this list in the near future.

Welcome PG; good to see another joining the fold, and you're very lucky to have most of a spare engine (and gearbox I assume).
Good luck with your rebuild.
If the tank's failed at the top (unusual surely?) then I would have expected a relatively easy repair, and spare tanks aren't common.
As yours is an early model, it may have the smaller and lighter flywheel, although as the engine is a replacement, maybe not.
I've never seen rear crashbars either.
If it's sand coloured, it may be a Sahara.
