Insurance
« on: August 25, 2015, 01:25:11 pm »
Hi Folks,
I need to find some insurance for my NF and possibly other bikes as well. I am 71 now so need a policy without age problems.
I would welcome any advice on positive experiences with insurers here in UK. All bikes will be historic vehicles. At the moment they are in storage so will be insuring all off the road except the NF and adding them as they become roadworthy.
I note that several insurers advertise in Gambalunga which tells me very little except that some offer discounts.
I am going to read through some back issues again to see if there are any comments.
If anyone thinks they are in a position to offer friendly advice on list or off, please feel free...all comments will be appreciated.
Best wishes to all.
Thanks. David Gilliland

Hi David I have a rider policy with Carol Nash. Basically it covers all your declared bikes whether on road or off. If you add them all in one go then you save the £30 admin fee whenever you add bikes. They told me they base the main premium on the most valuable bike then add £10 per thousand for all the others. You get third party cover if riding bikes not belonging to you but if its your bike your on its comprehensive. The excesses on the older bikes are quite low. You also get  breakdown insurance included which some competitors do not include.
I have been with them a long time now but each year I shop around and have not found anything better. I always deal with them by phone and the staff have always been very good. My brother accidentally set his garage on fire and three old bikes were damaged. They sorted it out very quickly and he was more than happy.
I have no connection with them except as a satisfied customer.
Having said all that I may have just been lucky and hopefully other will give you their thoughts.
Good luck with it all

I use Carole Nash, three bikes 1970 NF, 1980 Kawasaki LTD 1000 (US Import) and a 2007 Royal Enfield 350 Bullet, costs me £203 and I'm aged 60.
Only ever claimed for puncture pick ups, no problems, prompt service.

Hi David, I am with Footman James and get a discount for being a VMCC  member. I have Moto Guzzi California, NF, BMW K75, Ariel NH 350 ,  Ariel Arrow 250 and pay £180. I hear people knocking Footman James but I am very happy with them and have been for years.    Moby Dick.
