Hello from the Fenlands
« on: March 01, 2017, 10:45:47 am »
HI all, David here, some of you may know me (or of me) as I run a bike shop selling Urals and the importer for Jawa. None of this has anything to do with Guzzis, but after decades of working on Urals and Jawas I fancied something different for my own use. Through work I was commissioned to fit a sidecar to an old British single, so this set me thinking I would like a slow revving single. Saw a Falcone at Stafford and spent the whole weekend convincing myself this was what I needed. In the end I was just too tight to buy it. Then one came up on flea bay and this time desire outweighed tightness and I hit "buy it now" at about midnight. Had a few short rides, done some fettling and servicing and I am delighted. I don't need to tell you lot how lovely these bikes are, you already know. Looking forward to longer rides and attending the odd rally. If I ever work out how to add an image I will let you all see the bike.

That is indeed lovely David. I like the screen complete with the skirt, and especially the pannier bags. Did they come with the bike or are they from another source?

Once settled in, these bikes run and run. Mine will start first kick at -15 after sitting in the unheated garage for a month - then will happily run almost flat-out all day without complaint.

Great bike - nice colour scheme.

Hello nick949, screen came with it although not fitted, so I fitted it along with the Ural indicators that just happened to line up with the holes already cut in the screen lower.
The panniers are my own work.
2 x army bags bought on line, aluminium liners made up by a local company to my specifications. Then fitted so they can be removed with just one M10 bolt on each side.

huub, yes it's different enough (to a Ural) to be interesting, but not annoying to work on. same sort of technology, just everything in a different place. Interestingly early Ural carbs appear to be almost a straight copy of (or at least inspired by) the standard carb on the Guzzi.

More info for nick949. The bags came from here https://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/camping-equipment/rucksacks-bags/canvas-rucksack-new-army-style-233812.html at £19.99 each. The aluminium liners made to my spec cost £50.00 for both and then they hook over the frame at the back using some metal I had and welded up to fit, and an allen head single bolt stops them sliding back/forth/up or down. Correct size allen key in the tool box. Additional aluminium plate on bottom to protect from heat of exhaust.

Very cool David. I may be able to find something similar over here - a step up from the doggie panniers I usually use.

Next time I'm in the UK I'll have to stop by. I always visit Norfolk (Dereham area) and Wisbech is just a hop and skip away.

Yes do pop in next time you are over. Your bike looks great, nice to see one in use. Love your beaded seat cover, I have a bit of old sheep skin that goes on which ever bike I'm riding at the time.
