Rim Sizes?
« on: August 27, 2017, 04:42:58 am »
My Nuovo Falcone project came with a WM2-18 front rim and a WM3-18 rear rim as detailed below.  I suspect that at least one of these rims is not original given the Akront / Borrani mis-match.

Front Wheel: Akront 18-1.85.36-S-118S
Rear Wheel: Borrani WM-3/2.15-18/36 RM-01-4402

Are these the correct widths?  The parts manual seems to indicate a WM3 for the rear, but I don't see a specification for the front.

The stock rims aren't the same part number:

Rear

Unfortunately, I can't check the zizes, as mine have been restrung in stainless (same both ends I think)

That's interesting huub; why would they have different part numbers if they're both the same I wonder...  ???

Angle of the spokes might be different, and thus the angle of drilling of the rim.

Thanks for the replies!  I'm planning to replace the current Akront and Borrani rims and will likely stick with my current WM2/ WM3 front/rear setup in conjunction with a 3.25 width front tire and 3.5 width rear tire.  I'll probably use Takasago Excel flanged rims, which look very similar to vintage Borrani rims but are substantially stronger.

I'm resurrecting this three year old thread, but did you ever go ahead with your rim change? If so, do you have details on replacement rim type and model, and spoke description? The wheels on my NF are abysmally rusty and I want to swap them out for something else. Not really sure where to start.
