Fork Shrouds Rubbing on Seal Carriers and Lowers
« on: June 18, 2018, 06:40:45 am »
My fork shrouds are angled towards the rear of the bike and appear to be rubbing on the seal carriers and fork lowers.  I've seen pics of other bikes that appear to have the same problem.

Is there a solution for this?

The parts manual shows a couple of rubber rings that supposedly keep the fork shrouds concentric to the fork tubes.  Is this correct?  And if so, would replacing these solve the shroud rubbing issue?

On my bike, approximately 38mm of the seal carrier shows past the bottom of the fork shroud when the bike is on the centerstand.

Thanks for the quick response.

My forks seem to operate normally (i.e., like pogo sticks), so I don't think anything is bent.  And I pinged another local Nuovo Falcone owner who is also a professional motorcycle mechanic, and she responded that her forks have the same issue.

I'll report back if we come up with an easy fix.  But I suspect this will require disassembling the forks and replacing bits.  Maybe replacing the lower rubber ring with a delrin or nylon piece that is less subject to distortion.  I had planned to tear the forks down to install SR500 fork seals anyway.

Mine have the rubber rings, and they don't scrape FWIW.
Are you saying that yours doesn't have the rings?

Somewhere on Leafman's blog, I think Kater wrote of fitting rubber spacers from a Yamaha.  SR500 or XS650 maybe

Kater's solution was to fit the Yamaha dust caps to stop water getting into the fork lowers. He said the OEM part was required and aftermarket ones don't fi. Link might be here? http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/guzzi-nuovo-falcone.849445/page-52#post-26170678
