Plug or bolt in front of oil filter drain plug?
« on: August 27, 2017, 10:04:32 pm »
What is the steel plug or bolt on the bottom of the engine in front of the aluminum oil filter cover?  See the image at the link below for reference.

I couldn't find it listed in the parts manual and am curious about its function.

That hexagon bolt isn't in front of the oil filter, but further back. It's a retainer "bolt" which has a rounded pin and a spring inside. It's to make sure that the engine won't jump out of gear.

Can't see the photo unfortunately, but assume redsingle's right, and it'll be the detent spring for the gear selector. When i first got the bike, and had no manual, I removed it by mistake, but fortunately it went back in without issues.
