Please help me to understand.
« on: August 09, 2017, 07:30:14 pm »
I have bought the Nuvo Falcone that has been on this forum under the heading of Another Tito`s cast off.On this forum, there is an entry on the 03 February 2015 07:49:51 pm titled Engine and Transmission/gearbox blues. The previous owner who signs off as Tony is asking "if anyone has the correct tolerances ". I have it from a very qualified engineer that the gearbox is shimmed at the factory and that each box is shimmed differently to suit.I also understand that it is absolutely critical that the shims are replaced as the factory intended. If the gearbox has been rebuilt and shims replaced by trial and error with no record of the factory location it could well be impossible to rebuild this gear box and would account for the reason why no Guzzi outlet would be willing to do this work.I would appreciate any comments or views as to if I am correct. Finally, would any forum member know of anyone who could carry out this work? Thank you.

Hello Velocette,
The shimming of the NF gearboxes is made very poor, it needs a lot of time to do it exactly and you have to open and close the engine case often to find the correct shimmering.
My friend Peter explained it in the guzzitreff forum and Martin from Newseeland translated it to English and it must be on this forum. I do this job separately with only one gearshaft built in for two gears, first the 1 and 3 gear - here you need no gasket - then I take this shaft away and do the job with the main gearshaft - the 2 and 4 gear - here you need a gasket ( I close the casing with only 4 bolts and 4 gasket pieces cut from an old one).
If there is only one shaft in the casing you can easily put your hand into the casing and prove the clearance of the shift forks, they must be moveable in both sides if the gear is shifted and there should be about 0,35 mm play between the gear wheel and the shifted wheel at the cogs .
